I can't wait to buy my dream home and decorate it =]

I think a true design should be veiwed when there are no windows in the area, a designer will always look for natural light to enhance the environ and create the desired mood.  I love the first pic as their is no windows anywhere to be seen but the light, colour and furnishings are just fab and create the right feeling.  Clever use of shadows dont you think !

Ignoring windows is like ignoring walls. Why bother? Windows are a major feature.

Badger

The windows are not in the first pic, so my point is you have to really get ya grey matter wroking to create the mood or look you want.
Yes windows are a feature, i also love the old factory/warehouse conversion look with the whole wall covered in windows.

Slightly unrelated, but ... how much should windows cost?

I've got three windows which I need replacing - am saving up and had hoped to get it done before winter, but have been busy recently so now I'm hoping to get it done before the main big chill in Jan/Feb time.

It seems impossible to get any indication of prices without inviting someone around to check them out. One telephone agent for a big firm referred me to a website, which came up with a quote that in total wasn't far short of £2,000 for three UPVC double glazed dark wood effect windows and fitting. Two of these things are wide jobbies - three pains - and one is just two pains. How can three windows, even with fitting, possibly cost £2,000?

Have saved about £650 so far :-/

Unfortunately I have no idea about windows. However, I know you can haggle the hell out of the sales people.

You should just invite a few agencies around and get quotes, see what works out best. Perhaps google a few of the companies as well. If they've supplied a poor service, someone somewhere is bound to have written about in a forum.

I had two five panel bays, big 12 foot patio slidding door, three doors and 14 other windows of various shapes and sizes done for 14k.
The reason i say this is because, this quote was the middle quote from 6 companies, the big boys like everest came up with 20 plus k to do the job, where as Mr Top oh the morn tos ya, came in at 4k.
If i was to do the same again i would get my windows from B & Q and get a local builder to install them for me.  It would be cheaper all round.  I recon 1500 for the job !

vwilson

1500 for yours via B&Q/local builder, or 1500 for mine?

14K sounds painful.

1500k at the very worts for yours with local builder, could be even cheaper with Paddy and Max Co Ltd

Haven't got around to sorting it yet. Have had something on every weekend for the last month or so. London for a wedding this weekend.

It might have to wait until the new year. :/

I did get a note through the post about Everest doing a 40% off deal if I talk to them before December. That could be worth a go (although I doubt any deal they do will really be *that* good, otherwise they wouldn't offer it ... just goes to show how high the markup is the rest of the time, and what are the best my flat wouldn't qualify for their special deal!!)

V

40% off? Hmmm...
The markup price on their service charges must be crazy at normal rates!

Badger

Dont be fooled oh the v one, even with 60% off and i bet you could still get the same elsewhere for cheaper
