Hi All,

We have some prospective tenants, one of whom is from hellostan. He has supplied his passport and some wage slips showing a national insurance number. Is this enough to prove he has A right to live in the UK? I have looked online but nothing I can find confirms this, although it makes me feel I need an official document of some kind besides a payslip and passport. Thanks for any help.

hi,

is hellostan even a country? i suspect you need to do better background checks  ;D, what country does it say on their passport? Is it in the eu? the gov.website has all the info about right to reside on it , hope this helps, good luck !

A tenant now must have legal rights to be in the country.

If you failed to check their identify yo could face issues as you were renting to an illegal person.

Always get passport and visa's as evidence, does he have right to work in the UK?

Do you mean it's a UK Passport?
If so check the "passport type" code on the passport it will tell you the type of residency permit he has.

Your internet search skills are pretty poor, the document at this address is quite clear:

The passport would be fine. The wage slips are not relevant.

If it's a UK passport you're golden... if it's some other [mucky and hard to decipher!] passport then you need to be looking for some kind of date... giving leave to remain.

It's all dead easy - welcome to your new role in the UK Border Agency (not to be confused with UK Border Force - because force is wrong). The salary is £0. The liabilities are probably unlimited... possibly jail time. Take it seriously. Remember - it's now said that it goes against Human Rights n'all, but it's our own Government telling us to do it - in them we trust.
