Hi All

Very quick but hopefully not daft question about the boiler service and Gas safety certificate.
Is the Gas Safety certificate given as a result of having the boiler serviced or is it a separate check?
I'm only asking as want to make sure i'm not paying unnecessarily for both

Many thanks in advance
Jo

A Service is more (greater) than a GSC.

That is true in terms of what the engineer does to the boiler during a service compared to just doing a safety check, but...

1. You still need the GSC certificate (Landlord Gas Safety Record)

2. A GSC inspects more than just the boiler if you have other gas appliances (hob, oven, gas fire...)

So you should specifically ask for a GSC to be done (ideally at the same time as the boiler service) and will normally be required to pay a little extra for any additional checks plus the issuing of the certificate.

I suggest it's the other way around...

That, only if minded to do so (or for warranty purposes), you get the boiler serviced at the same time as you do the mandatory GSC.

Thanks for all your replies. So both are required legally as a landlord

How did you conclude that? That, specifically, wasn't said.

No. Only the Gas Safety check is required by law.

A boiler service is not a legal requirement - although of course you may elect to have it done annually, and at the same time as the GSC.
