Hello I very recently moved into a flat above the landlords garage, the downstairs hallway and bathroom run along next to it then the upstairs is directly above. Within a few days I had a problem with a really strong diesel smell emanating into the entire flat, I had all the windows open and was assured there had been a small spillage of red diesel in the garage and it would be fine now and they'd never had an issue before. Well it hasn't been fine and I constantly get fuel/chemical smells on and off and it has really triggered my asthma. I sought advice from a friend and realise that the flat probably hasn't been sealed properly and this is illegal? It's also incredibly cold in there, it feels warmer outside.

I want out of the contract as it's not safe but it doesn't have a break clause, can anyone offer any advice about the legalities etc? I've only been there two weeks and I am now staying elsewhere as I cannot be breathing that in.
