Hello I very recently moved into a flat above the landlords garage, the downstairs hallway and bathroom run along next to it then the upstairs is directly above. Within a few days I had a problem with a really strong diesel smell emanating into the entire flat, I had all the windows open and was assured there had been a small spillage of red diesel in the garage and it would be fine now and theyíd never had an issue before. Well it hasnít been fine and I constantly get fuel/chemical smells on and off and it has really triggered my asthma. I sought advice from a friend and realise that the flat probably hasnít been sealed properly and this is illegal? Itís also incredibly cold in there, it feels warmer outside.

I want out of the contract as itís not safe but it doesnít have a break clause, can anyone offer any advice about the legalities etc? Iíve only been there two weeks and I am now staying elsewhere as I cannot be breathing that in.

Have you written or spoken to the landlord since you moved out,if so,what was the response?
