Current landlord is being unbearable and really making it difficult to live in the property due to her controlling attitude and things breaking and her not wanting to fix it. We have 3 months left of the contract, we've found another property and really want to move there. Understand we would need to pay council tax/rent for the current property if we move but can we rent two places at once? We can afford it, I just can't deal with been controlled or belittled and living with all these faults that are never going to be fixed!

I can see no reason why you cannot rent two properties. You will probably need a reference from the current landlord, but if you make  clear you will pay your rent for the remainder of the time I doubt if she will cause problems for you.

You can rent as many properties as you like... you can buy as many properties as you're able. There's no restrictions on this kind of thing.
