Hi all,

So last Friday we were six days until the end of a two-year tenancy on a flat. We'd let them know two weeks before the end of the tenancy that we would not be staying on on a rolling contract.

The lettings agency - who are generally unprofessional - rang and wanted a viewing that day, and wanted to arrange more viewings for the rest of the days. I said it was impossible because we were in the process of packing up and moving. She said fine she'd arrange it for after we'd moved out.

10 minutes later the phone rang again, and her colleague was on the phone telling us that if we refused access we'd be in breach of contract. He said the landlord might get angry that the flat was empty after our contract was up and withhold the deposit. He said that we "had to let [them[ in" and that they "didn't want [us] to get into trouble".
In the contract it said that the tenant should allow the landlord or agent in for viewings, permission not unreasonably withheld, with mutual written consent. I said I couldn't see how we'd be breaking the contract, but I acquiesced anyway because the lettings agency were going to do a final inventory check on the last day and we didn't trust them lest they make something up that was wrong with the flat.

I just want to know how far the above was scaremongering, or whether the letting agent was telling the truth.
