Boxer Joe Calzaghe is buying up flats in Egypt in hope to make a fortune.

Quote
Joe has been a regular visitor to The Right Move Abroad estate agents as he attempts to cash in on his 10-year reign as a boxing world champ.

The Newbridge fighter, who unified the Super Middleweight title with a stunning points victory over Mikkel Kessler last month, is hoping the investments will make him money after his sporting career is finished.

The 35-year-old added: "I went out to Sharm el Sheik earlier his year and really liked the place.

"The weather's great, the people are nice and I had a good time snorkelling.

"At first I was in two minds because of the bombings a few years ago, but property prices are low compared to many other sunny locations so I thought I'd go for it."

Calzaghe has already bought a one-bedroom investment apartment for £32,950 in Regency Towers on the Red Sea coast. And he's considering a private property at the Regency Beach Resort near Hurghada.

Jeremy Casey, of The Right Move Abroad, who have been dealing with Calzaghe, explained Egypt is becoming increasingly popular among Brits.

He said: "Egypt's appeal is growing. It has guaranteed year-round sunshine, diving facilities that are among the best in the world, and plenty of flights from Britain make it accessible. You've got the fantastic ancient attractions – Luxor can be done in a day-trip from Hurghada — but Egypt's surprisingly modern, too.

"The contrast of old and new makes it an exciting country in which to buy."

30k for a flat in Egypt...sounds reasanble.

What do you guys think? Is he making a wise move?

vwilson

I think the drinking water would terrify me. Has he factored in the cost of bottled water for the rest of his life?

Good move, but but but, i would buy a family sized villa rather than a flat,  Loads of my friends go to Egypt every year and are repeat customers.
I would go for the family market.
I love Eygpt it is in my eyes one of the best places in the world, to be honest i could find myself there full time one day.

I think it seems like a popular destination because ALOT of people go once ... they see the pyramids ... go on afew camel rides , eat the food ... and come back feeling abit ill .
Then say its was a really good holiday but not again .

Because there is not alot there yet and to be fair ...... turkey and tunisia can get away with being a holiday destination with alot of bars and neon coloured clubs and over friendly waiters
But Egypt is yes cultural ...but not friendly.

People just go because it seems cheap and they can see the pyramids.

SORRYYYY BADGIE  :-[
