UK landlords are expected to take advantage of the current economic climate and expand their portfolios.

UK landlords are expected to take advantage of the current economic climate and expand their portfolios.

That is according to new research from the Mortgage Warehouse, which took on the opinions of 3,179 mortgage intermediaries.

It found that only 12 per cent of respondents expect landlords to reduce the size of their portfolios in the coming months.

A total of 44 per cent anticipate seeing landlords maintain their current portfolios and the same number think that they will expand them.

"Intermediaries are on the frontline of the mortgage market and so are well placed to assess the prospects of professional landlords," said Andy McQueen, managing director of the Mortgage Warehouse.

"Clearly the current climate is not ideal for first-time landlords, given the limited number of deals available to them, but experienced investors may find excellent opportunities in a cooling housing market to purchase additional property," he continued.
