11 bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, a large, three-sink kitchen. For only £60 a week including bills.

Sounds too good to be true or a dodgy advert in your local paper, right?

Well it isnt to good to be true... thats if you dont mind being a guardian of an empty building, for AD HOC a company that provide the owners of vacant buildings with a security service by placing flexible tenants in it.

You can find the article here http://www.dailymail.co.uk/property/article-1127830/Im-property-guardian-angel--60-week-I-11-bedrooms-12-bathrooms-Hampstead.html

I think this is the oddest thing ive read in awhile. Its kind of like squatting for normal people... that arent on drugs/homeless.

So odd.

Wait, so that woman is basically a house-sitter, right?
Did I miss something?

Fionalouisa

Well yes .... but a house sitter in a whole floor of a care home ! With only a 14 days relocation notice.

propertyfag

2 weeks ain't THAT bad, especially if you're only paying £60 per week. Bargain!

But I don't know if i'd want to live in an ex care home. The place won't exactly be cosy. And it will smell of old people- peas and cabbage. haha

Fionalouisa

ahah how many care homes have you been into that smell of peas and cabbage.

It is very 'The shining'.

propertyfag

I haven't actually been in a care home before. But i've met old people that smell of peas and cabbage!

Fionalouisa

Well you have something to look forward to in later life then ha !

I dont know how the woman would stand to live in a carehome.... all the flowery carpets.. and hand rails all over the show.

I guess handy for when you come home drunk.  :-\

Badger

Hey back of the care home a bit, dont forget i have one !  I do admit that some do smell of boiled beef and cabbage, but mine doesnt.

There are several UK firms running guardian schemes, looking after empty houses and commercial premises on behalf of owners. The firms recruit individuals who want a flexible lifestyle unsuited to conventional home ownership or renting.Vacant buildings cost money and with the recession more properties are being sold, or put out of use, as companies sell off assets or downsize.

It seems quite interesting. I am probably be moving back to Hampstead  next year and try to live the poor life and a Post Grad lease cheap in the short term it seems to me. If someone does this or knows someone who I  like to share their experiences.

SamK

I have not read much about it, but £60 a week including bills, that makes me think, is this possible for 11 rooms?

dionrogers

About 70% of commercial property is required guardian, but a considerable number of private residences. Few are the owners of long-term overseas, but most of the traditional new-build has not sold or builders are saving their property, until the development of the property market recovery is back.

Some are large houses whose owners are abroad for long periods, but most are new construction classic developments. There is no restriction on this type of building they will work with other than his being safe to live.

Companies hire people who want a flexible lifestyle unsuitable for conventional or property renting.Vacant cost money building and the recession of several properties are sold or removed from service, the companies or sell assets to downsize.
