Stamp duty for first-time buyers on homes worth up to £250,000 would be scrapped, says the shadow chancellor. Currently, anyone that purchases property for £120,000 or more has to pay a stamp duty fee.

The new proposal sounds like a good idea.

But that shouldn't just apply to first-time buyers, as far as i'm concerned, for obvious reasons :)

However, I don't think saving first-time buyers from approx 2k will cause a huge ripple, do you? Obviously, it will help...a little.

Take from Peter give to Paul.  its the way tax works.  You only have to look at the effect the smoking ban and age rise is having, they will always find another way to find the lost revinue ohh and then add a bit on top.  Um hasnt fuel just gone up 2p, that means another 2.1 million a day * extra*in the coffers, see what i mean !.
Come to think about it they are making up the short fall in stamp duty and gift cash here by taxing the rich people who earn overseas and pay no tax in this country, there we go.
I think some people will be greatfull for 2k in there pockets.

Don't sniff at it !!! Its like another shadow-cabinet proposal is for married people to get 20 quid a week just for being married. Some snooty people say "its only 20 quid" - but I know I would not turn down 1000 quid a year !!!!

cheers
