The Arco lamp Designed by Achille Castiglioni and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni

£939

This has to be one of my favourite lamps , the idea of the lamp is an interior version of the street lamp and was meant be so stunning that fixed lights would be a thing of the past . It didnt really do that , however it has seen a come back in the past few years when used in The Italian Job and Diamonds are Forever

The reason for the heft price tag is the 60kg solid marble base , which has a hole through it , so a stick can be inserted and carried.

The best and cheapest replica I could find is from B&Q at £35 , its odviously not made of marble and doesnt have such a large arch to it , but its ALOT cheaper .

Ive also found a table lamp in the same style from Focus £15

Its actually pretty cute seeing the price .

Supernatural Chair by Ross Lovegrove

£155

This isnt really a classic , but it is quite popular.
I've actually just ordered a replica of this chair from Dwell at £30  , which seems identical except for the hole on the seat.

Le Klint 172 Pendant by Poul Christiansen for Le Klint

£182-£214

Since 1969 Poul Christiansen has been designing for Le Klint , before that the lampshades where folded in straight lines.

A really good replica is Ikea's version from only £13

I think these about 3 lampshades in the range

The Barcelona chair designed by Mies van der Rohe

£3,360 for the chrome plated version

I do love this chair .... but not the price.
The chair was actually designed for the German Pavilion in the 1929 World's Expo in Barcelona and each chair is stamped with Mies van der Rohe's signature just under the front of the chair .

You can buy some pretty good versions on Ebay for about £300 , but you cant reallly count on the quality.
The best I've found is the Mojo Interiors version , which is £400

Eileen Grey's Cocktail Table

£130

Even though the replica isnt that much cheaper , it is identical !

Dwell £79

Eiffel Chair by Charles Eames

£400

Another Dwell version

£39

So does anyone own any 'designer' furniture or a similar version.

Oooooh, I like the Barcelona chair and the cocktail table. That would make a nice little set!!

I love this stuff, unfortunitly when you have family members in the fashion industry you can not get away with replica stuff,  the father in law has been into furniture design for 40 yrs.  The bro in law is also into furniture design and design in general.  I hate it when they come round because you can see them looking around at things, the braa in law ofter speeks his mind on certain things as well, aaagggghhhhh.

Also to put another idea in the mix,  What about going for bespoke design that reflects your own personality and taist rather than someone elses.  A one off peice in my eyes is worth far more than a designers for this very reason.  I love one off lumps.

Great post Fee Fee

If you're bigger than your brother, give him a knuckle sandwich next time he makes a cheeky little comment about your beautiful furniture haha :)

Badger

propertyfag

Then he can say whatever the hell he wants about your crappy furniture  ;D

Badger

lol
The best one he came up with was about my dvd and cd storage
I got two next wall cabbinets with glass doors. * by the way love next stuff * and while he was sat at my d/room table he was twithching his eyes looking at if they had been put on the wall at exactly the same height. can i just add here, that the cabinets where a good 15 ft away from each other, he was right one was a fraction lower, they where also on differant walls !, ffs man leave me alone  8)

propertyfag

haha, nice.

I LOVE next furniture as well. M&S knock out some decent stuff now and then, too.

propertyfag

I've been meaning to ask you, Bambi.

How long ago did you buy your house for, and when will it be ready to sell?

Fionalouisa

I bought it with my wanker lovely brother in law .... in sept .

:'( and we plan to sell in 2009  :'(

I know , dont say anything .... its the most ridiculous thing ever ... I know

propertyfag

That's a pretty dangerous plan.

What if a crash occurs in 2009?

Why are you keeping it for over a year?

Fionalouisa

I know  >:(

A year is a stupidly long time , I wanted to keep it for 6 months max .
But I was 'outvoted'  ::) because they all thought it would be 'nice' to keep it for that long.

Now they are realising that we will have it done in half the time , and the pull out fee is £3,000.

If the supposed crash happens in 2009 ... we wont get as much money as we hoped .... but we bought if for atleast 20k cheaper than it should of been.

Like you say , it is a dangerous plan. But theres not alot I can do about it .... except learn never to go in with an idiot again   ;D

propertyfag

That's it, because it would be "nice" to keep?

Dodgy business sense. Meanwhile you're still shelling out for mortgage payments.

What an odd arrangement.

Fionalouisa

I know ..... oh I know.  :'( dont make me want to cry even more !

Fionalouisa

ohh my chair comes today , from dwell , and a light pull and a mirrored corner cabinet .

I hate having to stay in all day

propertyfag

Fionalouisa

i know none of you are bothered !! lol but it is about furniture

:D my chair and cabinet and thingy came  ;D

Oh my chair is beautiful .

But the horrible delivery guy left the 2 HUGEEEE boxes on the drive . They where bigger than me !!

tsk , rude person .

And so I had to drag them into the house , arghhh
