I let rooms in a flat. Dave(57) lived there for about 5 months, I found him dead on his bed in the room. We dont know what it was, we dont think Covid 19. The next morning his brothers phoned and demanded to remove his property. First time for me and I was in shock. I let them. The body was removed of course but they were round immediately and blitzed the room, even checking under the mattress 'in case Dave had left some money'. Took his car, clothes, personal stuff and many expensive tools. About a week later I gave it some thought. I dont think they had any right whatsoever to appropriate Daves estate. They may have been the LAST people he wanted to have his stuff. They should have obtained Probate first and shown the certificate. The reason Im posting this is to get some confirmation of this theory and secondly to alert others to this situation. If it does happen to you, be prepared.

Well,  I don't think Dave's going to be all that bothered about it now, and neither should you be. They've saved you the hassle of dealing with his stuff while the legals grind on for months and months. Any ramifications are their lookout.

Yes, your right, Dave and I  were mates and it was a bit sudden, violating and intrusive. If I had realised they were breaking the law Id have done the same, but let them know.
I thought 'put it on the forum' to allow people to be prepared. I wasnt.

That's really sad, but it isn't surprising.. Death brings out the worst in people.. I hope the other tenants are OK with it all...

Well, thanks for that, they have taken it very well and are in good lockdown spirits!
