My tenants have been in the property for 3 years and have been great. They want to stay another year (minimum). The tenancy agreement is due for renewal in April. I'd like to manage the property myself from now on but don't know how to go about it. Do I just tell the agent I don't want the tenancy renewing through them and let the tenants stay?  Can someone please  advise me if this is possible and how it would work?

You need to review the agreement that you have with the agent, all of which are different.
As what you are trying to do is to the detriment of the agent, who, almost certainly provided the agreement that you have with them, what you're proposing isn't likely to be easy or cheap.
You should also review everything that the agent has that you might need in future, because they are not required to be co-operative once you have decided to no longer be a customer.

There will be a clause and money involved for them to 'walk away'
