Using open rent and notice they have an online signature for the rental contract.

Not heard of this before. Always thought you had to physically sign a document and possibly have it witnessed.

Anybody advise against this or am I just being an old fart and need to get with the times?

Not too sure what you mean by 'using open rent and notice', but I have previously sent a contract online to another country for a new tenant moving back here from abroad.  She signed it and e.mailed it back, no problems materialised.

Open rent is a service for landlords to advertise their property.

I might be wrong but I think open rent use a digital signature.

Just found this on their site:

Digital signatures are becoming commonplace with online and remote transactions in the UK. They not only make the process faster and easier, but they are legally binding and admissible in court - this was established by the Electronic Communications Act 2000 and subsequent EU Directives. See this guidance from GOV.UK for more detail.

Having said that - our contract is available for download as well, so you can ask your tenants/landlord to sign it personally (as well as online) if you prefer.
