I am a landlord of a flat in a house of 4 flats.  My tenant has to vacate for a week due to structural problems in the house, the cost of which is shared by all 4 freeholders.  However, can my loss of one weeks' rent plus replacement carpet also be shared via all freeholders?  I think that as these costs are as a result of the problems within the structure of the building, they come under the responsibility of the landlord (i.e. the 4 of us freeholders) but I am getting a negative response to my request.

Why cant the carpet be replaced after the work is done? As for loss of rent, if you have comprehensive landlords insurance this should cover loss of rent. You cant expect the other freeholders to subsidise your business.
