Have I committed a civil offense?

Hi there!

I recently let my property in England to a "company", without the use of an agency. The "company" is a real company, but made of one person. It's like a consultant (to lower taxes, perhaps). I realised however that I did not perform a "Right to check". I saw the passport of the spouse (British) of the company owner, but not that of the owner (which is "clearly British too"). I actually did not make a copy of the one I saw.

In light of the new regulation (Dec 2016), have I committed an offense? If so, what can I do to alleviate/solve the problem?

I am actually having issues with my tenant, as they are paying late. If I confess to them that I made an mistake not taking a copy of their IDs, they might use this against me, if ever they get into arrears.

I am very stressed about this situation. I do not want to have a civil offense for such thing, nor to been extracted money from my tenants in case they get the upper hand of the legal side of things.

Thanks in advance!

Best,
Perico.
