Could anyone suggest how I might go about obtaining a quotation for the insurance of a lock up shop with a flat above. We own the shop and the flat so we would combine the insurance into one policy.

We are currently insuring via a broker but they have increased the premium by 25% and 26% over the previous two years and I feel that they are taking the ....

Err. Just shop around. Try a couple of other brokers.

I was wondering if ,because the shop below  is "commercial" whether specialist insurance is needed...ie I can't just log on to Go Compare and get them to quote me (un)happy!

Edit..I might see whether  Direct Line offer such policies.

You appear to be talking out loud with yourself.

A broker will be able to advise you.

Having rung around for a quote,  the cheapest was coming in at over £800! Seems the broker had managed to find a cheaper deal.

£800 buildings insurance for a small shop with a 1 bed flat above.  Rip off when you can insure a house you live in for building and contents for £150 or less!

£800 does seem high, although you do have a lower quote via your broker.

I suppose that, depending where it is located, the shop carries a higher risk of malicious damage than would a house in a similar location.
