Hi all,

I have just been speaking to the electrician who will be carrying out my EICR. He has advised that if there are any Type AC RCDs then the inspection will fail. He admitted he has just been advised of this by his company and that he had previously been signing of installations with Type AC RCDs up until the end of last week.

He has advised if there are Type AC RCDs and not Type A RCDOs then I will need a new consumer unit t an install cost of around £500, that's assuming everything else is fine.

I'm not questioning the electrician, but more so if the regulation is compulsory for EICRs under the 18th edition.

Guess what...I have the MCBs for up and downstairs protected by a Type AC RCD.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

Don't ask random strangers on the Internet your question. Ask another Electrician how they'd deal with it and see if you get an answer you prefer. If the same you're golden. If different then maybe change the horse you're riding.

I thought that was the purpose of the Forum......silly me eh!!

Hippogriff

Absolutely... very silly you. We are a collection of Landlords, and some Tenants... your question is for an Electrician. If you can't figure that part out yourself... you need more help than even I can give you. What weight do you think a response from a Landlord here would add to your situation? Will it override what your Electrician is saying he's about to do on your behalf? Yes, silly you indeed. Let's try it... just make it up... tell your Electrician that you have been told - by someone on the Internet - that his approach isn't necessary.

Come back to us when you achieve success in getting him, and his company, to change their minds. Silly you.

Dilyan

Hippogriff, take a chill pill, your attitude stinks. All you had to comment was "speak to an electrician" but you're just putting people off from posting anything on here.

Hippogriff

And yet you provided nothing - a big fat zero. Please go carp elsewhere instead of taking your time to add zero value - if you're put off from posting because of your own thin skin, then don't post - your 6 posts weren't helpful to anyone as far as I can see. At least I attempted to help the OP by getting them to think clearly about their problem. What on earth would they usefully do with any answer they received from some folk like us on a forum - use it to challenge the Electrician they're already engaged with and get them to see the error of their ways? Jeez. It just can't be my fault that some people are stupid.

Dilyan

I've been on this forum for about 3 weeks and you for 7 years. I prefer not to make comments on topics I have little knowledge on but you just make rude and sarcastic comments on nearly every subject.

To me as someone new to this platform it's just a put off.

Try to be kind to others (just a friendly advice, take it or not, no harm intended).

;)

Hippogriff

Maybe it's you that's not suited to here? Not me. Every place has its own vibe... I don't think we need lessons from an upstart. If you can't stand the heat... you know where the exit is. Your two hours or so spent on the forum should be time well-spent... not spent in trying to enforce your own world-view of wherever new you visit. The gall you display here is impressive.

Just for the record,

the electrician, came back to me today and said his boss had got it wrong and that it would be a class 3, so only a recommend. It should be good if it is RCD'd. Thought I would contribute something positive Hippogriff.

What I would really like to know though is who moderates the moderators. Correct me if I am wrong this is listed in the Landlord forum, under general Category and then 'LANDLORD ADVICE & HELP'.....how silly of me to ask for Help or advice in this area.

Thanks for the support Dilyan. :)

Dilyan

You're welcome AliG, all the best  :)

That is positive. So you didn't even need to ask random strangers on the Internet for their unqualified opinions, never mind another Electrician? Even though it didn't seem like you bothered to do even that in the meantime, you just sat and waited, and you had no plan at all regarding what to do with any of those unqualified points of view if they all came at you... what a time-wasting numptie.  ;D Please do consider your questions with more critical thinking in the future.

Somewhat philosophical that... but it's not required... the Moderators remove advertising and attempts at bilking or most survey requests from students... for the most part we let things go, we've said it before but Landlord World requires that we have a thick skin, even though Dilyan was quite rude to me over Personal Message I wouldn't contemplate banning the account or anything like that... people can have strong views and voice them... even if they're views that certain people are idiots... that's OK to voice... the country has got into the mess it's in because everyone seems to need their own Safe Space / Echo Chamber and they burst into tears if they run into someone with a different view than they have. So, rest easy, your question is not something you need to worry about.

Revo

A positive ending to a negative encounter which didn't cost the earth.

I'll get my coat.😂

I am still waiting to earn my spurs by having someone complain about me to the moderators. It's a right of passage, and frankly I am feeling quite hurt and excluded.

heavykarma

Should have said Rite of Passage of course.

The standard of spelling in this forum has gone downhill of late.

Where do I complain to a moderator about Heavykarma?   :D  ;)

heavykarma

Oh,please do,it's not fair that Hippogriff gets all the attention.x
