Hi everyone,

I have been renting my deceased mothers house thought a agent for 12 months now. The tennent is on HB and after a conversation i had with the new girl in there office i think they might be getting more rent then we agreed on at the start. I had said i wanted rent for a 3 bed property and a few weeks latter they said the tennent could only get rent for a 2 bed. As this letting is all new to me and with everything else that was going on at the time i was just happy to have someone in there.

What i'd like to know is can i phone my local council and ask how much rent they are paying ?

I had my suspicions before but after the conversation i'm even more so.

Thanks

Hi

Im not too sure if they would provide you with that information, as it is private and confidencial. Unless of course, she/he marked the box on the form allowing the landord to beable to enquire about the process of the intial claim etc, or provide permission now.

I dont see why you cant go around or contact the tenant, and ask for yourself. Even be honest and explain the situation. Im sure no 2 party's ever want a middle man/3rd party getting the better of them both.

I hope this helps..

Hi,

Yeah, I agree with Abidshaz. I don't think the council are obliged to release that kind of information for data protection reasons, unless you're receiving the rent directly from the council (which you're not).

I'm confused by your situation anyways. So are you renting out a 3 bedroom property at a 2 bedroom rate?
