Hello, I have just come back from my BTL and hand basin sink plug 'click and waste' system has been corroded and broken away.
1 year ago my tenants used a drain cleaner and I am surmising the damage is due to this. The property is 7 years old and in really good working order.
From my photos and notes of the inventory check in, there was no damage to the basin.

My question is around whose responsibility it Is to pay for the damage. I have checked the lease agreement and case law and it appears I am responsible for the drain but not the fitting as it is the tenant should have not damaged the fixing.

As a landlord all I want is to be fair and just.

I would really appreciate your feedback.

With thanks!

The cost of a pop-up waste for a Basin is under £15 (Try Screwfix)...

Just to keep a good relationship with the tenant (providing you have a good relationship with them at present), I would fit a new waste myself just to avoid a dispute over pennies..  :)

I agree with 1702wales it is your responsibility to a degree but this would cause more trouble then it's worth and pop up drain is around £15 and would see as a good landlord and also keeping good relations just advise the tenants not to use drain cleaners...
