Hi
Just wondering if there are any issues to adding someone to the tenancy that I'm missing.

My tenant has asked that I add his partner to his tenancy agreement.
His 6 months agreement ran out a few months back so he is a periodic tenancy
I offered another fixed term but he didn't want to as he was looking for a bigger place for he and his partner.
I think it is perhaps to help him and his partner - and coming baby- on the council housing list.

Thing is when I rented to him I thought it was only him the flat is small and not suitable for children at all I told him as much but I'm not about to try and get him out because of this - and he anyway will leave when he's ready

But if I add his partner it looks like I've perhaps overcrowded the flat also I wonder about the liability for paying the rent - as she will not have been credit checked .

Can I add her while he is still the one liable for the rent etc ?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Paul

There have been cases posted by landlords on here, which would make me hesitate now to add a pregnant partner onto the lease. If the relationship ended, and he walked out,you could be left with the dilemma of a woman with a child and no financial support.Overcrowding should not be an issue if there is one proper bedroom. A baby in a cot in parent's room does not count for one year.
