I was having a think yesterday about storage and the house im doing up really lacks a big storage space such as an under stairs cupboard or a garage .

So I thought about boarding out the loft and putting a light in there . It would really only cost me the price of a new hatch and a loft ladder ( £30 or so )

This is what it looks like before you board it out .. you odvouisly cant walk on it ..

and this is what it would look like when its boarded .

The head height in my attic is really good , you can actually stand up .. and its quite a large space .

So my question is ... Do you think there is any point .
ie. Will it be a very small selling feature to say ... people with alot of junk ?

It will be quite abit of effort .. but not alot of money .

So what does everyone think . Would you be pleased to have extra space in your attic to store things without them getting dusty and damp ?

Lofts definitely make good storage space and I think a lot of people almost expect lofts to have boards laid these days.

My loft is done and it's rammed with childhood memories junk.

For such little cost, it's worth doing it. DO IT!

Loft space is a huge bug bare of mine, I HATE THE LOFT.  I never ever put anything up there,
That is just me,  BUT a floored out loft is a good idea, i would say 99.9 % of the pop would like to see a floored loft area.
Make sure you have insulation down first, im sure you will.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Just be careful if you put in any windows or make it too civilized up there, as apparently you can be taxed more if you make it too much like a room.

I've never actually gone up into the loft space above my flat. It probably would be useful to make use of, but I don't have a ladder and if I bought one I wouldn't have anywhere to store it. Also having never been I'm also slightly paranoid as to what is up there. But perhaps when I do the place up I'll have a look and maybe get it boarded - extra storage in a 1 bed has to be worth investigating.

A bug what ???

You mean creepy crawlys in the loft ???  :-\
Why is this badgey , do you know  ?
Could I put some bug killer up there ? hmmmm

I dont like bugs but as long as they dont drop down at you when you open the hatch .. I think some lovely potential buyers will just be glad of the clean  :-\ dry space .

;D.

lol, no i dont like the area called a loft, but to some a nice decked out loft is great. for me i dont use the space i hate straining trying to put a sofa or a tele or a set of draws or some carpet or a stereo or some unwanted gifts or an old pc or some curtains or some bedding or battered boxes filled to the brim with odds and sods, and when you push it up there it collapses ororororororoorororororoororororororororororororororororororororororor
If it needs to go up there you dont need it so get rid lol

In the flat i'm in now, the loft isn't boarded and theres no ladder to get up there but we could really do with the space as there is nowhere to store anything.

Every house I've lived in with my parents (6 until I moved out 6 months ago) they have boarded out the loft, so I'd say its a winner...  ;D
