Hello,

I've been living in this flat for 2 years now and although the contract expired long ago I kept living here. Last week some representative of the landlord showed up telling me that I have 2 months of unpaid rent one from november  last year and another one from april this year but to best of my knowledge I paid everything(I paid always by cash).
It seems weird to ask for a rent 9 months old especially since when there was a problem they notified me immediately . Myproblem is that I am young and dumb and all the mess my life has been I didnt keep those handwritten notes that played as receipts  some of them lost or some of them just dont know but I always manage to keep receipts for the last 3 months.
Now they want me to pay those months again and I was also moving out and I am in a very poor situation with money. What advice could you give me except for being more careful  with those receipts

A legal beagle may come along and tell you where the onus of proof lies... is it the responsibility of the Landlord to prove you didn't pay that rent, or is it your responsibility to prove you did pay that rent?

If the former you might be golden. If the latter you might be more a shade of brown. If it's hard to tell, and it's some kind of Judgment of Solomon situation... well, maybe you need to be taken to Court... you wouldn't take them to Court, as you don't want anything... but you might want your Deposit back (if there was one) and, if there was one, they might want to steal it from you. Keep your eyes open and your ears pinned-back.
