Hello to everybody.

I am new to this Forum and I would like some advice. I am living in a very nice 2 bedrooms flat with another person. Since October 2018 the other tenant decided to stop paying rent and bills and he decided to do whatever he wants. I have informed the Landlord all the responsibilities that the flatmate has not done and the Landlord has said to me that an eviction process is ongoing to take my flatmate out of the flat.

Five months have passed and the eviction has not happened, I have a rental contract and always pay every month, my roommate finished the contract in October 2018 and as I said neither pay rent nor bills and also makes in the house what he wants. In my contract, it says nothing that I can not put locks on the access doors to the shared areas and I'm thinking to do it. So I think this tenant will be forced to leave the flat because he does not have access to these rooms.

Can I have a legal problem if I do it?

Thanks for the reading.

The absence of a clause saying you cannot do something, does not necessarily mean you can (it definitely does not mean you should).

I'm sure you see the logic in that.

Following your plan will likely result in quite a bit of trouble for yourself... I would advise you sit tight and let the disagreement (which is surely really between the Landlord and the other Tenant) run its course.

Thanks HIPPOGRIFF for the quick response!!!

I know... this is why I am asking. The case is if nothing bothers me, as you say I just wait until eviction takes place, but unfortunately what this tenant is doing in the flat is affecting me as well. The flat and building is soo good to leave it because a tenant wants to live for free and make others life difficult, this tenant phoned the police telling them that I treat him to dead, fortunately the police when came and spoke with me and the other tenant an with the landlord on the phone, they realized that he was the bad apple and ask him to leave the flat for one night.

It is quite frustrating to see and suffer this shit.

Bad apples are as bad apples do.

Good eggs, on the other hand... very predictable.

I wish you luck in the following-through of your plans... ensure you are able to safely lock yourself in your own area, for protection, of course. Take provisions.
