Hi

So I posted last week about my concerns re referencing and my slightly sketchy past, all was fine and we got through the referencing.  All was going through and then we get a call from the agent to say that the landlord has now changed his mind and has decided to sell the house, they are doing that with the same agent,

Now they refunded us the holding deposit of £250 however have said they will not refund us the the referencing fee which is £96 each.  I just assumed this was okay however now we have been speaking to other agents and they have said that the landlord should be liable for those costs as he was the one who pulled out.  I don't want to write a letter if in all honesty I have no grounds on this, what are your thoughts.

Thanks

I'd absolutely agree with you. I'm not saying that from some kind of legal perspective - just a common sense and moral one.

Why should you even have to write a letter would be my additional question. Seems fairly unjust.

You should definitely get your money back. £96 for a reference is extortionate as they probably cost the agent between £10 and £20 so their mark-up is substantial.

I'd be interested to hear where you got with this, that's really bad.
