Dear All,

I have vacated the property 40 days back and the landlord & agent has released the full deposit, I stayed there for more than 6 years.

A few days back, upon inspection by the landlord, they are claiming that property is not up to the mark and requesting for contribution from myself citing that there are few damages, painting required etc.

Is this legal?

Please can you help on how to proceed.

Kind Regards.

Hippogriff

No. Ignore them. They shouldn't be able to double-dip. The opportunity existed to ask for deductions, it was missed. Anything could have happened to the property in the intervening 40 days.

Thank You for your help.

I was worried whether they can drag me into court etc...

Anyone can try. The Deposit was released back to you in full... whether by the Agent or the Landlord, it doesn't matter to you (they're one and the same)... what it sounds like is the Landlord has higher standards than the Agent and there is now a disagreement between those two parties... again, it doesn't matter to you (they're one and the same). If you wished to write to them, explaining such, then it might be fun.

Left-hand, right-hand...
