AST Tenant FROM 1991 -2007 ...Periodic tenant since 2007 -present with no rent increase since 2007
Been told in a phone call that my landlord is going to issue me with a section 21
Pretty devastated , don't want to leave .
so much conflicting information out there , very confused .

Maybe this is a unique situation , I cannot find anything to compare it to
Bottom line can my landlord do this ?

Thanks in advance for any help/ advice / tips
K

Yes.

(sorry, but it's there house)

Was it definately 100% an AST from 1991.  Can you confirm you don't have an assured tenancy.

Hippogriff

I'm not entirely sure why the OP thinks this might be a unique situation... but if a tenancy exists as normal then, yes, the Landlord can serve the Tenant with a Section 21 and expect them to leave, or commence eviction proceedings.

As mentioned, best to clarify what kind of tenancy you have...

After seeking some advice it seems that my landlord should have issued a section 20 notice .....which he did not ..so things are a tiny bit more hopeful.
To the o/p who replied " its their house "
Thats kinda stating the obvious , but landlords are not above the law.

That doesn't sound right? Can you provide more information?

Sorry for confusion
We believed we were originally on an assured tenacy , which landlord disputes.
We actually moved here June 1990 and apparently a section 20 notice ( stating it was an ast ) should have been issued prior to us signing original tenancy agreement.
I do hope this makes sense , this stuff is all new to me , and the thought of losing my home after all this time is most upsetting .

OK, well, I am not expert on Section 20 at all, either... but I thought it was all to do with major repairs to a building?

I also only understand ASTs and if a Landlord wants to evict a Tenant then they will - eventually - be successful in doing so. Therefore I do always advise Tenants to prepare themselves - at least mentally - for moving. Your situation might well be different and the times indicate that would be likely.

I take it you have read this?

And can I take it that you have also called Shelter to discuss things with them? It might be a worthwhile phone call.

I have contacted shelter , i have sent copies of all relevant paper work .....and so it begins ...
