Dear forum people,

Does anyone know if a landlady has the right to demand further money after deposit retention has been agreed and remaining deposit returned?  Are there any legal obligations for me to give further monies?  We've been out of there for two weeks, and the property was inspected by her on the day we left.  She now maintains that there are things (minor) that she didn't notice before.

Thank you,

Grumpy (and rather befuddled)

No.

Politely respond to your ex-Landlord informing them that the entire point of them doing an inspection was to collate the list of things the Landlord would like to request deposit deductions for. The fact that the Landlord did not do this correctly or comprehensively enough will teach them a valuable lesson. Landlords do not get to "double-dip". There is no legal obligation what-so-ever. Your ex-Landlord can stamp and pout all they want... no banana. Maybe next time the Landlord will do this properly, instead of half-heartedly.

In fact, to be honest, I would probably not even bother responding to the ex-Landlord.

Thank you Hippogriff.  it is lovely to have someone affirm things.  I have had a perfectly horrid year whilst in residence.  Just want it to be over.
