My partner and I are due to vacate this 1 bed apartment on the 19th of June, I today received an txt message from our landlady asking if she can come check if any work needs to be done. My question is>>> Is she allowed to do this? I thought the checks would be done once we had left as obviously we shall clean and return back the flat to it original state as much as possible.
If it is ok for her to do I have not a problem but just feel patronized by this decision

Hello stace 87

Yes.  And it's normal.  I like to know if there's any work which will involve a tradesman to get back into good order about a month before a tenant leaves.  That way the tradesman is booked up in advance, to start as soon as the house is empty, rather than losing valuable rental time waiting for a slot in their diary.

So donn't feel patronised.  Just decide if the appointment time is reasonable and then agree or disagree to the visit.

Usually this is done at the start of the tenancy and the end with both parties being there. usually the landlord/landlady will inspect before releasing the deposit to make sure there are no damage to the property. wear and tear are common and should not prevent the release of the deposit.

If you have the time can you spear 2 min of your time to fill out a questionnaire for my dissertation. It is based on the experience of the tenants in the private rented sector and the condition of their rented property.

The questionnaire is anonymous and the link as follows:

Thank you.
