Can a landlord claim for a period in which they claim they couldn't rent out a property?

In this instance there is some work to do to a walk in shower I.e resealing and grouting to get rid of some blackspots. Landlord is claiming it is stopping people renting; can they claim for lost rental income?

More information would help.I am assuming you have left said property,giving the correct notice,and the landlord is not happy with the state of the shower? Have you agreed to deductions from the deposit to cover the shower? On the face of it,such work would not take long to be done,and a prospective tenant would be told everything would be sorted before they moved in.So the answer is probably No,they can't.   

We moved out a few days ago with more than the correct notice period - upon leaving I advised the Landlord I knew I would need to rectify the showers and am trying to arrange someone to do it ASAP; he has made comments about 'losing' money if not sorted as it is putting tenants off. Like you I would have thought an Estate Agent would simply confirm it would be rectified before a moving in date and that it wouldn't be a problem. Landlord hasn't suggested taking any money in respect of it and am hoping to rectify in next couple of weeks of not sooner. I guess my concern is if I can't find anyone to complete the work sooner rather than later and felt as though the landlord was heading in the direction of trying to claim lost rental income. For context, not that it matters, but the everything else is fine and it is the only issue outstanding; it's not as though the shower is in a disastrous state it is just some black spots caught up in the sealant and grout.

Some strong bleach might do the trick,you could sort this yourself if you still have access.HG make a very good grout cleaner that works in minutes. I can't imagine such a minor matter would put off a serious prospective tenant.Hope you took photos in case of dispute.
