I have been a (good) tenant and neighbour for 4 and a half years... Iniatally the lanfordlord gave me a 6month contract,  i have had no tenancy agreement now for 4 yrs, no annual gas checks although everything else has been fine.. He has now given me 4weeks notice to vacate, as he has sold his home(next door) and wants my home back to live in... am worried about fighting for my rights as i know he has a key and am worried he would just turf my things out whilst i am at work if i fight his notice. I am financially strapped! As the house is fully furnished and i have nothing but a couple of side tables and my bedding...any advice pls :/

Hi Ali,

Essentially, he has the right to repossess his property, since you're not in a fixed term. However, by law, he needs to give you 8 weeks notice to vacate. Also, he's not allowed to enter the property without your permission.

That might not be much help, but at least it gives you more time. And if he illegally enters the property and removes your items, you can prosecute him.
