Hi this is  my first post and it is a long stroy sorry.Right i lived on the isle of wight but could not get work so i have  worked on the mainland for the past five years just going home on weekends to see my family. My wife and i then decied to move to the mainland to bring the family back together,we put are house on the market then i started to look for a new house.Down the road were my parents live someone had moved out and the house has been empty for three years now.I got in touch with the owner and we agreed a price because it was very run down, this is were the fun began it took a lot longer to sell my house than first thought so now because it had been a while he put it on the open market for 6 months and had loads of veiwings but no offers because it was so run down.Good news i had sold my house got a mortage to buy his house everybody happy until after 10 weeks my buyer pulls out at the last minute because they cannot get the money to buy mine house.I tell the owner and he said he is going to put it back on the market unless i can come up with the cash.In the mean time i put mine back on the market at a lot lower  price to get shot of it and 3 weeks later have sold it again but now my mortage offer has run out,no problem my broker says just  pay us 210 pounds and they will exstend the offer, get i think.I now  contact the ower who says thats great are solicitors start the ball rolling then i get a moving date for the 1st of march contact the ower who says that is fine now just got to pack up and wait.2 days before i am due to move my mortgae broker rings me up saying that they are now not going to give me the money even though nothing has changed i am fuming with him but he says his hands are tied.I then ring the ower up to tell him what has happened and he said don't woory about it move all your stuff in but you can not live their and we will sort something out he said he was going to buy the house then rent back to me for 6 months because another broker has told me i can have the money in september which he says is a bit longer than he hoped but should not be a problem.I then get an e-mail from him on thursday to get all my stuff out by th 30th of april because he says he has been told he has got  to put it on the open market or he will get caught for captial gains tax.i have got a meeting with him later today to talk things over with him because i am now going to be homeless with two children, like i said to him if it was going to be a problem then i would have never moved,7 weeks ago i had my own home with every thing up to date and now nothing. Now the main reason i am asking what my rights are is because at the begining of febuary he gave me a set of keys so i could work on the house to get it in a state i could live in because i have fitted a new fiited kitchen done all the repairs in the bathroom because none of the taps would work and cleaned all down stairs and painted all downstairs walls and ceilings he said he will pay me for any goods used but not labour and only if i have a recipts, trouble is i do not have most of the recits because it is stuff i have bought over the last two years while waiting to move in.i have e-mails saying i could have the keys and could do the work but that is all i have, were do i stand because i still want the house in september but i no that with the work i have done it will sale staright away and for a higher price now  thanks mick

I really hope that someone comes along with some knowledge on this sort of thing, as it does sound to me as if you have been taken for a ride by all sides involved here.   :o

Unfortunately, as you don't seem to have any sort of signed tenancy agreement or contract to buy the house then I am not sure what you can do.  I hope that your email correspondence could be sufficient, but unfortunately I have my doubts (but hope I am wrong there).

I can only suggest that you investigate renting another property on a short term let to give your family somewhere to live whilst you try to sort this out, though I am sure you have already thought of that.

I wish you luck.  Do let us know how you get on.
