Hi guys!

My landlord has let us (after 6 months) get a small dog for our property.
He's had experience with bad tenants in the past so he's anxious to make sure he does everything by the book and I want the same.

In our contract we're allowed one with permission, and we've got it.
He wants us to hold off for a short bit though because he thinks there is a bit more red tape to work through. He's a welsh landlord so he follows RLA and Welsh landlord rules.

He thinks that there needs to be some form of inspection from someone to deem the property safe for pets. He's not sure who he needs to contact and organise that with/know if it's actually required. I tried looking it up for him but I can't find anything on it anywhere. Have you guys heard of anything like this?

Thanks for the advice guys!

I know of no such inspection that is required by a landlord. He may be confusing it with the home visits that reputable animal rescues carry out before an adoption. The things checked for are fence at least 6 feet, with no holes or gaps (this does not apply usually for cats) and general state of the place, hazards in the garden etc.
As well as rescues, responsible breeders will often require such a visit before selling an animal.Where did you get your dog from ? Being Wales I hope it was not a puppy farm.

This is in advance to us getting a dog, yeah we intend to find a Responsible registered breeder and make sure we meet the parents :)  thanks for that advice - that's really appreciated. It is possible he's got it mixed up as he's only rented to one other couple in the past.
