Hello.. i really need some advice.  my landlord is moving from his letting agents and is going to rent the property to me privately.  the letting agents are insisting that i vacate the property and they carry out checks before my bond can be returned.

they have sent me a notice to vacate, dated 24th June (yes that in the future) and it has my signature on it.. but i can assure you, i haven't been into the letting agents office for months??

any suggestions of what's going on and what i should do?

Hello Justsuz,

Sorry for my delay in getting back to you.  You must be given a minimum of two months to vacate via a section 21 notice.  You imply this notice is very recent, so it's invalid.  Ignore it.

The tenancy agreement is (99% of the time) between you and your landlord.  If the landlord wants to break the agreement between him and the agent that's a matter between them only and should not effect you.  So ignore the agent.

Hope this helps.  Please let us know how you get on.

To prevent future issues you might want to report this matter to police and get a reference number if they willing to forge signature what is stopping them doing it again to keep your deposit etc.

If you have the time can you spear 2 min of your time to fill out a questionnaire for my dissertation. It is based on the experience of the tenants in the private rented sector and the condition of their rented property.

The questionnaire is anonymous and the link as follows:
