Anyone ever thought about the rental holiday market, ok maybe not in the UK, although there are some great places around the country that I am sure would bring in a good return.
Have always wounded * I do a lot of this  ??? * about it and would holiday rental people give a rats clacker about the property they are staying in.
Its the same mental ethos as if you drive a rental car you thrash it around don't you, or drive it harder than your own car.  This poses another question would you only advertise to a select group, but by doing this you are cutting your market.
So I suppose the management side of having holiday lets you would really need to be in control off 100%.
Aisha you stated on another post that 70% of the Swiss rent.  Is this due to house price,  I feel Switsland * typo * would be a great place for holiday let, this and other ski areas around Europe.

My parents bought a luxury off-plan apartment type thing in dubai last year. Since it's completion in development it's nearly doubled in value. Additionally, they can look to get 1k per week on rental income for tourists! You can't get deals like that every day!

Apparently dubai is the place to invest right now. It's a thriving area with constant development. I think prices are quite reasonable, too.

However, investing abroad  for rental-purposes isn't my thing. It's just, if something goes wrong, i'd have to get a plane and fly out there. I'd be too worried about the whole thing.

The only way i would invest abroad is if it were my 2nd home. I wouldn't get into the renting game abroad, I don't think. But you know, you never know what the future holds...

alright badgy... first off i think investing abroad for holiday rentals is a fab idea and one can get great return on it too. Only particular places though where an investment like such could be beneficial would be places like... Orlando Florida, Interlaken Switzerland or even Luzern, Venice, Dubai, Carribean, and Kashmir. Those are personal picks.

faggy, i think it's worth the flight trips to sort out issues if u consider potential return on such investments. I don't know how it works in the uk but in the states and canada when you've got business as such, you can always claim expenses when it comes to tax time na mean? Expense claim ur trips faggy.

badgy swiss is definitely a great place to invest in my opinion.

Aisha what are your thoughts on the agents you guys used to rent the place you are in now.
If you where to buy a holiday rental would you go through an agent or look yourself.  I dont think i could go to one of these seminars and be dictated to as to how to do it.  I would prefire to find out myself.

Working with agents might reduce stress and tension for you but equally it could cause complications and just unneccessary wasting of time. I'd rather handle business as such on my own, it's not all too difficult you just need to take time off and concentrate your efforts for the cause. I reckon two to three weeks are probably good enough to land a good investment if you have a set criteria in mind.

Too many loose ends and yeh, you might need an agent to figure your criteria out for you.
