The 'poor' homeowner whose property is worth £2m

I read the most pathetic, pretentious story just a minute ago, and I had to post a thread about it. It's quite a long read, but I found it quite interesting and compelling.

Basically, in 1995 a couple purchased a three-bedroom upper maisonette in Hampstead, northwest London for £250,000. Few years later they moved three doors down for £730,000. Their 250k house obviously went up in value, so they had enough to move into the 750k house. Another eight years on, the property has been valued at £2m. Thanks to the kind market, they have a relatively small mortgage, consequently if they sold their house, they could move somewhere cheaper and live comfortably for the rest of their lives.

The couple can't actually afford their lifestyle because they live in an expensive area. It's no secret that salaries haven't increased anywhere near as the same rate as house prices, hence the struggle. Even though they can't afford to live in their area, they refuse  to move because they like their swish lifestyle and image too much. Urgh.

The article also mentions other people in similar situations. However, I couldn't stomach reading the entire article after digesting the first case study; perhaps you'll have better luck with it. People like that make me realise how messed up the world is. "Image is everything, practicality is nothing."

Does the article remind you of certain people?

They should either shut up about it and enjoy there house .... or do the normal logical thing and buy somewhere 'cheap' at a mere amount of £1 million  ::) and have another bloody million to do what they like with .

Mental .
