I get the most amusing emails some times...

Quote
Hello I'm about to enter into a tenancy agreement with a friend who has just lost a long term tenant who he also had an affair with. She is trying to claim have his house but it belongs to my friend. My question is do you do a tenancy agreement that if she was by some miracle be able to claim some part of his house I would not be evicted or asked to leave ever. My friend and owner of the property is in agreement with this as he is struggle ling to pay the mortgage  would need a tenant indefinitely.

I'm not sure if I got told all the details, but i'm assuming it was a straight forward "affair". The lady must be a psycho to try and claim someone else's property just because she was a tenant and had an affair with the landlord...

What will the next thing be,  You brought me a drink back in 1992 at a local disco, the fact that we spent time drinking the drinks you brought and we danced to soft cell and duran duran means i am going to take your house of you ok !, lol

LOL!!!
I didn't fully understand the email; it all seemed a bit surreal. But he sounded genuinely confused.

In my response I said, "Was it just a straight forward affair, or were there other details involved?"

LOL intruiging.

Sounds like he's worried he'll get kicked out if she gets the house. If she can claim the house just because she lived there and had sex a few times, surely the guy who wrote to you can claim the house too.

And she'd better be real careful who she sleeps with if she does end up with the house.

Jesus.

I think two years is the new threshold beyond which couples can start claiming half of each other's houses or similar. They brought something in (or certainly discussed it) about 18 months ago, because of all the cohabiting couples. Which, coincidentally, I think is a seriously bad idea and impinges on personal freedoms - if someone lives with me do I have to chuck them out once every two years and get some kind of documentary evidence so they can't steal half my house??

If only it was that easy to get on the property ladder...  :D

My mate is going through a tough time at the moment, and although they have lived together for 4 years he is saying that because he has paid for her to go to uni and kept her fully for the 4 years that she isnt entitled to anything, cos she really hasnt put any money in the pot what so ever,  The fact she has been at uni and its on record she has not worked would proove this.  He if they split will fight this i think as he has all spending and out goings on record.  Interestinf one.

Wait, if you live with someone for a few years, are you entitled to a percentage of their property?

Seems crazy to me.

Badger

Well that was the norm as you become a common law husband or wife and entitled to half,
But i think the laws are changing or have changed and there is more specific guidlines now as to how much you can get etc
