Landlord,

I think that the forum is suffering severely from poor quality contributions. Borderline nonsensical posts which in my opinion are designed to promote web links in the poster's signature line.

I suggest to

1.) Install a captcha for posting messages
2.) Disable signatures
3.) Have little country-flags indicating where a poster was located (based on an IP-address to country lookup).

Otherwise it will only get worse.

Well said Armin, this forum is an excellent resource, spoiled by poor spam control.

Yes, Armin, that's a fab idea.  I've no idea what a "captcha" is (and I'd like to know if you've got the time to explain to a techno ding bat) but I know you're a web developing type person in your main job so I'll trust what you say.

TallPaul sums it up.  Lots of helpful contributors and lots of annoying people diluting the goodness.

So who do we take this to to make it happen?

A captcha is typically an image with wobbly numbers or alphabet characters and you're supposed to type in a little form field what it's supposed to say. It's inconvenient in many circumstances, but it is very effective in keeping automated scripts/bots away. It will do nothing to keep an underpaid desperado from a developing country trying to get referral cents/pence by spamming links, but that's what manual intervention and those little country flags are for, so people are at least aware that someone from say Ghana is posting.
