Hello. I am certain that gas safety checks are essential when letting a property. I was hoping someone could confirm if the 5 year electrical certs were too?

Gas safety cert must be provided to tenant when they move in.
There is no requirement for ay electrical certification ...

Gas and safety checks are indeed a basic legal requirement before a tenant moves in. It is also highly advised this is then checked annually. Both the Landlord and the tenant should each have a written report on the condition of each appliance

The fines is you fail to do this are huge  - you would after all be putting your tenants life at serious risk.
