I keep seing everywhere that house prices are still rising in the Uk.
Now i am getting a little frustrated at these comments cos last week the papers and other bodies where saying that they where falling, infact they where falling at a rather large rate.

What is going on and who benifits from this kind of coverage.

Is it the agents saying house prices are coming down to get punters in their shops looking and buying again after the lull after Xmas, i dont know, but it just irritates the crap out of me why they do it.

SO ARE HOUSE PRICES GOING UP IN GENERAL OR DOWN !

I think in general they are still going up, there are pockets where they will be going down or more truthfuly sold below market value as developer needs to clear stock - still think its great time to buy

If you mean the Express article, read it carefully. In the fine print of that article, despite the "house prices still on the rise" headline, it says that house prices fell over the last five months, and are only up 1.1% (a real fall over inflation) over the year.

What is going on is that the paper has "spun" the data for its own reasons.
