Does anyone know where the terms "Bears" and "Bulls" stemmed from? I'm sure there's some deep irony, or a logical analogy involved, but I'm unaware...

Basically, as I understand it, Bulls push the market up by buying, and bears stand back and wait for the market to drop...

Is that right?

I've found this so far:

"The term 'bear' comes from the City and from Wall Street, and refers to analysts who crunch numbers, who look at the facts, who think their predictions through and, on balance, the conclude that a downturn is on the way. "

if anyone knows, please let me know!

Well as i see it, a bear is a fluffy animal that will rip ya nuts of given the chance and to be honest the same goes for the bull but in a differant way.

I have also been called a bear by a few gay men in my time

In honesty though pfag, i will have a look around, if you find anything out, then please let me know/
