A lot of developers could be in for a shock in the coming months. During the slow market, a lot new builds have been sitting gathering dust. In an attempt to scrape back money they've started renting the properties out.

However, property developers could be forced to repay value-added tax they have already claimed back because of differing VAT treatment of selling and letting properties, according to advice published by Revenue & Customs.
