Argos is launching a build-it-yourself flat-pack house that will set you back 11k. The catalogue shop – better known for selling bargain bling and kiddies' toys – is marketing a range of self-assembly wooden houses starting at £11,000 . . . plus £4.95 home delivery charge.

The manufacturer boasts that no special skills are needed to build it, and full step-by-step instructions are supplied, although Argos does warn customers to check on planning permission and building regulations.

Manufacturer Finnforest said: "It takes a day or two to put up and you need at least two people for some of the job."

Hmm..they fail to mention that you'll need to buy a plot of land to build it on. Well, unless you have land already. But you get my drift, it's not so feasible for people that are strapped for cash and simply lured into the 11k concept.

The guide timescale of a "day or two" seems a little hmm...optimisitic, in my opinion.

Steve: you were looking for something like this for your garden, weren't you?  :P

Badger

LOL
Yes this was the kind of thing i was looking for, ummm, but mine was 30k plus ! made out of 74mm timbers etc.
But hey looks good

propertyfag

Wait, have you already bought yours and put it up?

PICTURES?!?!?

Badger

Not yet, i am only half way round the garden in relation to the fencing.  The guys have been working on it for ages now.  Mind you they had huge chunks oh concrete to dig up first.  The slab for the cabin isnt complete yet.  The whole landscapping of my garden will take anouther two years i recon.  I have got to get a lorry to pump the concrete 180 feet lol. what joy.
Will for sure put picks up when it happens.

propertyfag

Holy shit, how big is your garden?

B, I know i've said this before, and i'm going to say it again, but you must be loaded!!!

I want to see pics of your house!!

What is the Sq footage of that thing?

It still looks like a wendy house to me, a bloody nice one but still.

propertyfag

I'll try to find out more details about these sheds...
At the moment i'm not entirely sure of the specs.

propertyfag

Ok, the houses start at 11k, and go up to 13k. The one I put a picture up is 13k.

Here are more details/picture...

For just over £13,000, families can buy a log cabin with five rooms, underfloor heating and laminate flooring.

The home, known as a Helsinki, also boasts a "handy loft area for storage" and a decked terrace where the owners can sit and soak up the sun.

The 32ft by 16ft 10in Helsinki, made of Scandinavian whitewood, has double-glazed French doors and windows and a felt shingle roof.

It is constructed using tongue and groove boards which slot together Argos claims that the "44mm tongue and groove wall boarding provides additional strength, insulation and resilience to cope with extended year-round use".

Those unable to stretch to the "deluxe" underfloor heating and Canmore Oak laminate flooring at £13,099.99 can pick up a bog-standard Helsinki for £10,999.99.

ahhhh hmmm I'm not convinced.
Do Argoosie really think a person that wants or only can afford a 13k house with be able to buy a piece of land, get planning permission and then build it ... plumb it for a bathroom and kitchen and wire the whole place up with electricity ???
All in 2 simple days and with only 2 people ................

It speaks for its self really.

I think the only people to buy this are less richer badgers  :D that actually own a argos catalogue and will buy it thinking they can do it all by themselves and then it will end up as a nice hugee shed/play thing for there kids at the bottom of the garden ... that leaks abit because they didnt put it up right.

Im sorry flatpack only works for ikea because furniture isnt house sized .

propertyfag

I agree, fifi69.

I think Argos are targetting the wrong market. They should target that house for super rich people like Badgey, so they can have a playden at the bottom of the garden for their kids. Or even an office.

Agreed.

It's more or less like a granny annex. I'd probably use it as a guest house and shove the 'rents in there...  ;)

Badger

These things are all the same, its a * do you shop at waitrose or summerfield* situ.  Both are adiquate to ones needs its just who do you go with !
From the homework i have done the one i want is a better build quality than the Argoooose one.  Then so is the price.

Happy days.

When its up fag you will have to come round for a bbq and a swim son !.
