Benefits fraudsters steal £140 million from taxpayers

The Audit Commission has uncovered a 25 per cent increase in fraudulent benefit claims this year with thousands of people falsely claiming to be homeless, unemployed or disabled.

In one case a man received council tax benefit, income support, incapacity benefit and disability allowance although he ran several businesses, drove a Mercedes and had savings of more than £100,000. His wife even claimed carer's allowance for looking after him.

This issue has been going on for ages, and it takes the piss that the government can't develop an appropriate system.
