Would you go through the CCJ process to recover £400 of unpaid rent

My last tenant left with £400 of unpaid rent .  Personally I think he is "pulling a fast one" hoping that I do not chase him for the money. He has been out of my property for 24 days now, did not return the key to the letting agent, waited till they were closed and put it though the letterbox

Is £400 worth the time and effort , has anybody got any experience they can share about going through CCJ process.

We have no forwarding address  - only E Mail and Phone Number. An E Mail has been sent , but at this moment in time  (1 week)  he has not responded. ?
1) How long should I give him before I go to the next step ..
2) I thought this might be ring him up and see if we can agree £100 a month  (no doubt he will bring furlough etc into the equation) ,
3)  is the next stop,  kick off CCJ proceedings, or is there something else I should do.

I was looking to let it go, however as he has just '"snuck off"  I am inclined to make an effort
Any advice - experience would be helpful

The main reason for starting action would be to get him a CCJ,to avoid him doing this to others. However, altruism aside, your costs and time would not make it worth it.I know it really sticks in the throat, but be glad he has gone before the arrears got much bigger.

Thanks for the reply.....
This guy has had them before and paid them.

Maybe I will give him a few more days and then ring him up and see if I can make any progress that way ..

If not as you say forget about it

Thanks again
