I am researching the selective licensing areas and I just found that the only council proceeds with a petition and there are strongly disagree with current policy is the Enfield. From my prospective is fair for the owners and unfair for the landlords. My latest experience within a North East area it cost me £600 in advance for 5 years and the current property rent is very low comparing the LHA estimation.

Does anyone what is going on with those areas and any thoughts will be nice...

Thank you

I have read information regarding the licensing in certain parts of Northern England, and It actually added to my reasons why I shouldn't buy in that area.
It's just another headache. Most of the hosing in those areas are usually in a really bad state of repair, and the tenants are generally people you don't want ot deal with.
However, I don't really see why an added tax is going to help that situation since most of the social problems are caused by the tenants.

Despite this, most landlords in that area refuse to carry out general repairs as they know what ever they fix will be damaged again quickly.
it's just on of those areas I wouldn't bother investing in. Is it unfair? - Yes! is it going to help? - NO! it's a typical government strategy...

Basically the government wants to make sure the landlords are prepared to fix anything and everything. AKA that landlords are in "good character" However I don't see how that would be affected by £600.
