Hi All
New to this game but basically i rented my house out on the 10th december. and went for the all inclusive package as i was new to this so thought that would be the best way to go.
Anyway one of the services was to inform all the utility companies of the switch over.  Anyway just went to check my bank account and i am still paying my council tax / water bill / and gas and electric. So i phoned up my electric supplier to ask them if they had been informed of the new tennants and it was news to them. To say im fuming is an understatement, ive  basically been paying them to do nothing are they in breach of there own contract and terms and conditions.

Hi,

I would check your contract for something like.... "Services Provided by the Agent"  Notify the relevant utility companies of the name of the Tenant and the relevant readings at the commencement of the Tenancy;

Normally agents write to the utility companies, they may well have done this,  i would suggest asking your agent when or if they have? they should have a record of this. i.e a letter sent/ phone call made etc

Hope this helps!

Hi juwelkeeper,

I've posted about this issue on another forum but I'm replying here too for the benefit of other forum users.

I just took my letting agent to court and this is one of the many things they neglected to do. The judge agreed that the management of the tenancy was poor and refunded the management fees.

Keep all the bills from the utility companies and any correspondence in case you too decide to go to court (which I recommend). If the agent insists that they have informed the suppliers, ask to see copies of the letters or emails that they allegedly sent. There is a possibility that if they neglected to do this, they will also not bother with many of their other obligations and this is the tip of the iceberg.

Am I allowed to say who they are?
