Hi, my tenants of over a year want to install a log burner into the house. There is a space for this as we had one when we lived there but I told them that they weren't to have one or an open fire due to the chimney not being lined. If we had have stayed then we were going to line it as we were advised to for safety reasons. I ultimately don't mind if they have one, I just don't want to have any responsibility for it/ chimney etc. Any advice?? Anyone know what my legal obligations would be if they had one installed?
Thanks

What? Being a tenant does not give them ANY rights to alter the premises in any way. Send a clearly written registered mail notification that they can't do that. Get a lawyer to write the letter ( even better; not too expensive for a lawyer letter either). It's your property you are responsible. Don't let them do it; BAD NEWS!
