Tenancy Deposit

First time poster!

We use a Letting Agent who deposited the tenants money as required.  The tenant was given notice to quit and duly moved out in January 2018, they left no forwarding address.  They left damage which costs slightly more than the deposit that is held.  I notified the Agent towards the end of February of the costs that we incurred to bring the property back to good order.

I'm informed by my Agent that they can not release the deposit money back to us yet (Its September now) as have been attempting to contact the tenant.

In an instance like this is it normal for this to take over six months or do I have a particular lazy letting agent (is there an incentive for the agent to delay this - do they keep the interest on the deposit?)

Thanks

Hippogriff

If it's in their bank account, yes, they'll earn interest and retain the interest... I'm assuming that this is worth their while and the Deposit was around £1,000,000? Happy days.

When this happened to me,there was a set period (nothing like as long as you have waited)after which the agent applied for and got the deposit paid to me.I think they are lazy or crafty.
