Hi
Is it a requirement of the TDS scheme to update the monthly rent amount each time it changes?
Our tenant left without notice and flat messy so after sending him requests to agree deduction from deposit which he has ignored went on TDS to make claim against deposit.
I've noticed though it has the rent amount(£575) from when the tenancy first started not current rent(£650)
Was I supposed to keep this up to date will it affect my claim? He actually owes us about £950 (£750 rent and £200 for damage/cleaning)
Cheers in advance

No need to update TDS when your rent increases. The only reason they need to know this initially is to check that the deposit is no greater than 5 week's rent.

Note that you can only be awarded an amount up to the value of the deposit held by the scheme. If you feel entitled to additional compensation exceeding the deposit, you will need to pursue that separately.

Thanks for response, I did wonder if when I claim for the unpaid rent they say doesn't equate to what is recorded. Just couldn't find anything on their site about it.
It's all in writing with the tenant so comfortable I've covered everything I had to.

Maybe if rent went down you might need to do something about it.

I suppose you would have to if the Deposit was equivalent to the limit. But even that - pragmatically - seems overkill admin..

Yes HippoG definitely more admin than needed. Didn't even occur to me until I went into scheme to claim against deposit and it had "Edit" button next to rent amount.
Also had Edit next to deposit which is strange as didn't think you could change that once deposited in scheme!

If you click the Edit button, you get a screen asking: Has the tenancy ended and all tenant(s) moved out?  [No]  [Yes]

I didn't want to proceed any further but I suspect that [No] would allow you to return part of the deposit, or top it up if you have for example agreed to an increased figure with the tenant (still capped at 5 week's rent though).

And maybe [Yes] directs you to the normal deposit return page.
